What is Xenical?
Xenical is a medicine that is used to treat obesity. It can be very difficult to lose weight. With a healthy diet and exercise, weight loss pills like Xenical, Orlistat or Alli can help you lose weight. When used alongside a calorie reduced diet, Xenical can help you lose 50% more weight than dieting alone.
The manufacturer recommends a fat intake of about 15 grams a meal. If you eat a meal that contains no fat, then you don’t need a dose of Alli. If the recommended intake of fat per meal is exceeded, you may experience abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Xenical is the brand name version of the generic medicine Orlistat. They are medically equivalent as they contain the same active ingredient.
How does Xenical work?
Xenical prevents your body from absorbing some of the fat you consume.
Fat Absorption without Xenical
Fat is too large to be absorbed by our body
It is broken down by enzymes into smaller parts that our body can absorb
The smaller molecules are easily absorbed in our body
Fat Absorption with Xenical: only 50% of fat is absorbed by the body
When you take Xenical weight loss tablets with a well-balanced diet, it blocks some of the enzymes from breaking down the fat
Larger fat molecules can therefore not be absorbed by the body and are excreted
How do you take Xenical?
Always take Xenical exactly as it has been prescribed to you. The usual dose of 120 mg capsule taken with each of the three main meals per day. Xenical can be taken immediately before, during, or up to one hour after a meal. The capsule should be swallowed with water.
How effective is Xenical?
Xenical is an effective way of losing weight if you suffer from obesity. However, Xenical alone is not enough to help you lose weight. You need to be on a calorie-restricted diet. In addition, you should incorporate exercise into your life.
