What is Nystan Oral Suspension?

Nystan Oral Suspension is a liquid oral thrush medication. It is used in the treatment and prevention of fungal medications in the mouth and throat. It can also be used to prevent babies getting oral thrush if their mother had vaginal thrush when they were born.

How does Nystan work?

Nystan Oral Suspension contains the active ingredient nystatin, which is an antifungal antibiotic. It kills the yeasts and fungi responsible for causing thrush, making it effective at treating oral thrush symptoms.

How do you take Nystan Oral Suspension?

Always use this nystatin oral thrush treatment as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. You should also read the patient information leaflet in full before taking this medication.

To take Nystan Oral Suspension, shake the bottle well and drop 1ml of the medication into the mouth 4 times a day. Try not to swallow the medication too quickly, as the more time it has in contact with the infection the more efficiently it will work.

Space the doses out evenly throughout the day and continue treatment for 48 hours after all symptoms have disappeared to help prevent a relapse.

How effective is Nystan Oral Suspension?

Nystan Oral Suspension is a clinically proven oral thrush treatment when taken correctly. If your symptoms don’t clear up within two weeks, you should see your doctor.  

To help prevent oral thrush you should:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day
  • Have regular check-ups with your dentist
  • Rinse your mouth after eating
  • Stop smoking, if you’re a smoker
  • Rinse your mouth if you use a corticosteroid inhaler
