What is Fluconazole?

Fluconazole 150mg capsules are used in the treatment of genital thrush in women and men. Thrush is caused by a fungus called candida, and it’s this fungus that the Fluconazole tablet controls.

How does Fluconazole work?

Fluconazole (sometimes misspelt as Flucanazole) is the active ingredient in these capsules. Fluconazole is an antifungal medicine that works to kill yeasts and fungi that cause genital thrush infections.

How do you take a Fluconazole capsule?

You should take Fluconazole as directed by your pharmacist or doctor. It’s also important to read the patient information leaflet fully before using this treatment.

The Fluconazole dosage for adult men and women is 150mg, taken as a single dose. Swallow the thrush capsule whole with a glass of water.

How effective is Fluconazole?

Fluconazole thrush oral capsule is a clinically proven treatment. If you’re treating vaginal thrush, you should notice an improvement within a few days, but penis thrush could take up to a week to clear. If you don’t see an improvement in your symptoms, you should see your doctor.

You can help to prevent further outbreaks of genital thrush by wearing cotton underwear rather than other fabrics and avoiding tight fitting clothing. It’s also best not to use highly perfumed shower products and soap.

What are the main side effects of Fluconazole oral capsules?

Like all medicines, Fluconazole can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. The most common side effects of Fluconazole for thrush are:

  1. Headaches
  2. Stomach issues such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
  3. Rash

For a full list of Fluconazole side effects, please see the patient information leaflet.
