What is Azithromycin?
Azithromycin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria by disabling them. Azithromycin is taken for the treatment of chlamydia.
It is important to start taking Azithromycin as soon as possible after getting diagnosed as leaving chlamydia untreated can cause serious complications such as infertility.
How does Azithromycin work?
Azithromycin works by stopping the chlamydia bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to its growth and reproduction. Without these proteins, the chlamydia bacteria cannot grow, replicate or increase in numbers and they eventually die. This prevents the chlamydia infection from spreading.

How effective is Azithromycin?
Azithromycin is a highly effective chlamydia treatment. It cures 98% of chlamydia infections.
Azithromycin takes 7 days to work. For Azithromycin to work, you should abstain from sexual activity for 7 days to prevent the spread of chlamydia or your own reinfection. All chlamydia symptoms should have cleared 7 days after taking Azithromycin.
