What are Microgynon 30 and Microgynon 30 ED?
Microgynon 30 and Microgynon 30 ED are combined oral contraceptive pills. The difference between the two kinds of Microgynon pill is that Microgynon 30 contains 21 pills in a strip, whereas Microgynon 30 ED contains 28 pills per strip, 7 of which are inactive and contain no hormones.
The combined pill is one of the most effective reversible ways of preventing pregnancy when taken correctly. Microgynon is very easy to use.
Remember that neither Microgynon pill protects against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) like condoms do.
How does Microgynon 30 and Microgynon 30 ED work?
Microgynon tablets contain 150 mg of the progestogen called levonorgestrel and 30 mg of the oestrogen called ethinylestradiol.
These hormones do 3 things: they stop the ovaries releasing eggs, thicken the mucus at the cervix to stop sperm getting through and prevent the lining of the uterus thickening.
