What is Zomig?
Zomig tablets are a prescription medication that is used to treat migraines. Zomig is the brand-name version of the generic medication, Zolmitriptan. Zomig reduces the headache aspect of a migraine attack once symptoms have started.
How does Zomig work?
The active ingredient in Zomig is zolmitriptan, which belongs to a group of medicines called triptans. Migraines are caused by the swelling of blood vessels in the brain. Triptans work by reducing the swelling and constricting the blood vessels in the brain to alleviate migraine symptoms.
How do you take Zomig?
Always take this medicine exactly as it has been prescribed to you by your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose is one 2.5 mg tablet at the onset of migraine symptoms. Swallow your tablet with a drink of water. You can take another tablet if the migraine is still present after two hours or if it returns within 24 hours.
Do not exceed more than two doses in one day unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor.
You should not take this medicine if you are lactose intolerant as it contains lactose.
How effective is Zomig?
When taken as directed to you by your doctor or pharmacist, Zomig is an effective way of treating migraines. However, you should not take Zomig preventatively, as this will not work and is hazardous to your health.
In addition to treating migraines with prescription medications, it is worth considering the triggers that may be causing your migraines.
