What is Zolmitriptan?

Zolmitriptan tablets are the generic version of the brand-name Zomig tablets. Zolmitriptan is used to treat migraines. This medication should only be taken at the onset of migraines; it should not be taken preventatively.

How does Zolmitriptan work?

Zolmitriptan tablets contain the active ingredient zolmitriptan. Migraine symptoms are caused by swollen blood vessels in the head. Zolmitriptan works by reducing the widening of these blood vessels, thereby reducing migraine symptoms.

How do you take Zolmitriptan?

Always take this medicine as it has been prescribed to you by your doctor or pharmacist.


The usual dose is 2.5 mg at the onset of a migraine. If this dose is not providing you with relief, your doctor may increase the dose to 5 mg.


Take one 2.5 mg Zolmitriptan tablet at the onset of a migraine. Do not exceed 10 mg in a day.

How effective is Zolmitriptan?

Zolmitriptan is an effective way of treating migraines at the onset of symptoms. You should not take Zolmitriptan preventatively, as this will not work and can be hazardous to your health.

What are the most common side effects of Zolmitriptan?
