Maxalt Melt is the brand-name, orodispersible (dissolvable) version of Rizatriptan. Rizatriptan is also available to buy.

How does Maxalt Melt 10 mg work?

Like other prescription migraine medications, Maxalt for migraines works by alleviating migraine symptoms once a migraine has already started.

The active ingredient in Maxalt Melt is rizatriptan. Rizatriptan is belongs to a class of medicines called selective serotonin 5-HT 1B/1D agonists. These medications work by stimulating serotonin, a neurotransmitter found in the brain. This leads to a reduction in inflammation and constricted blood vessels in the brain which stops the migraine.

How do you take Maxalt Melt?

Always take this medication exactly as it has been prescribed to you by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not take more than 2 doses of Maxalt Melt in a 24 hour period. You should leave at least 2 hours between doses.

The usual dose of Maxalt Melt is 10 mg. If you are currently taking propranolol or have kidney or liver problems, you should take a 5 mg dose of Maxalt Melt.
