What is Pro-Banthine 15mg?
Pro-Banthine 15mg is a tablet that is used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), bladder problems that may cause you to wet yourself and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
Pro-Banthine can be a useful treatment if you suffer from excessive sweating to the point that your everyday life is affected or you regularly feel anxious or uncomfortable.
How does Pro-Banthine work?
The active ingredient in each Pro-Banthine tablet is propantheline bromide 15mg, which is a type of medicine called an antimuscarinic. This ingredient works to cancel out the effect of a chemical in the body called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is what activates the sweat glands to produce sweat.
How do you take Pro-Banthine?
Always take Pro-Banthine exactly as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. Take your Pro-Banthine tablet whole with water.
The usual starting dose is one tablet before each meal and two tablets at bedtime. Make sure you take your tablet at least an hour before a meal, as food can affect how well the tablets work.
Your doctor will adjust the dose depending on how well you respond to the tablets. The dose may be increased to a maximum of eight tablets a day.
How effective is Pro-Banthine?
Providing it is taken as directed, Pro-Banthine is a clinically proven treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
You can make a few lifestyle changes to help this medication work more effectively. Wearing loose fitting, light clothing, not eating spicy foods and avoiding drinking too much alcohol can all help.
What are the main side effects of Pro-Banthine?
Like all medicines, Pro Banthine tablets can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Elderly people should take extra care as they can be more susceptible to the side effects of Pro-Banthine.
The most common side effects of Pro-Banthine include:
- An increase or decrease in heart rate
- Nausea and/or vomiting
Because Pro-Banthine causes a decrease in sweating, it can cause fever or heatstroke in very hot weather. For a full list of Pro Banthine side effects, please see the patient information leaflet.
