What is Elleste?

Elleste tablets are used for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women experiencing menopause. Elleste can also be used in the prevention of osteoporosis. Elleste is one of the most common brands of HRT tablets.

It is really important that you read the patient information leaflet before taking this medication.

 

Elleste Solo 1 mg / 2 mg

Elleste Solo 1 mg / 2 mg is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that is used for the relief of symptoms occurring after menopause. Elleste solo can also be used to prevent osteoporosis.

You should not take Elleste Solo if you are lactose intolerant as is contains lactose.

Elleste Solo is best suited for women who have had hysterectomies. If you have not had a hysterectomy you should be taking progestogen for 12 days a month in addition to Elleste Solo.

 

Elleste Duet 1 mg / 2 mg

Elleste Duet is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Unlike Elleste Solo, Elleste Duet contains both oestrogen (estradiol hemihydrate) and a progestogen (norethisterone acetate). Elleste Duet is used to relieve the symptoms that occur after menopause. It can also be used to help prevent osteoporosis.

HRT Elleste Duet contains lactose and is therefore unsuitable for women who are lactose intolerant.

 

Elleste Duet Conti

Elleste Duet Conti is used for providing relief from the symptoms caused by menopause. Elleste Duet Conti can also be used to prevent osteoporosis. Elleste Duet Conti is suitable for women who have not had hysterectomies as it contains both oestrogen and progestogen.

Elleste Duet Conti is unsuitable for women who are lactose intolerant.

How does Elleste work?

Elleste Solo 1 mg / 2 mg

Elleste Solo alleviates the symptoms caused by menopause as it contains the female hormone oestrogen (estradiol hemihydrate). Elleste Solo should only be taken by women who have had hysterectomies. If you have not had a hysterectomy and you want to take Elleste Solo, it is important that you also take progestogen (norethisterone acetate).

 

Elleste Duet 1 mg / 2 mg

Elleste Duet contains both oestrogen (estradiol hemihydrate) and progestogen (norethisterone acetate). Elleste Duet is suitable for women who have not had hysterectomies.

 

Elleste Duet Conti 

Elleste Duet Conti relieves menopause symptoms by increasing the levels of oestrogen in the body. The drop in oestrogen that occurs during menopause leads to symptoms such as hot face, neck and chest (hot flashes).

Elleste Duet Conti contains both oestrogen (estradiol hemihydrate) and progestogen (norethisterone acetate).

How do you take Elleste?

Always take this medicine exactly as it has been prescribed to you by your doctor or pharmacist. You must discuss the use of this medication with your GP before taking it it.  If you have been taking Elleste and do not feel that you are taking the right dose, you must speak to your doctor.

 

Elleste Solo 1 mg / 2 mg

If you are having regular periods, take your first Elleste solo tablet on the first day of bleeding. If you are not having regular periods, you can start right away.

Take ONE tablet daily at the same time every day.

Take the tablets whole with water.

 

Elleste Duet 1 mg / 2 mg

Elleste Duet 1 mg pack contains 16 white tablets and 12 pale green tablets. You must start with the white tablets. Elleste Duet 2 mg pack contains 16 orange tablets and 12 grey tablets. You must start with the grey tablets.

If you are still having regular periods, you must start taking Elleste Duet on the first day of your period. If you do not have regular periods, you can start taking Elleste Duet right away.

Take ONE tablet daily at the same time every day. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

 

Elleste Duet Conti 

If you are not already taking any HRT, you can take Elleste Duet Conti tablets immediately.

Take ONE tablet daily at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Unlike with other Elleste tablets, all of the Elleste Duet Conti tablets are the same. When you finish a foil strip, start a new one the next day.

Things you need to know before taking Elleste

Elleste Solo 1mg / 2mg

You should not take Elleste Solo if:

  • You have or have ever had breast cancer (or if you think you may have it)
  • You have or think you may have a cancer that is sensitive to oestrogen (this includes cancer of the womb lining)
  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • You have untreated endometrial hyperplasia (excessive thickening of the womb)
  • You have had thrombosis (a blood clot in a vein)
  • You have a blood clotting disorder (such as a protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency)
  • You have or have recently had a heart attack, stroke, angina, or other disease caused by blood clots in the arteries
  • You’ve ever had a livery disease and your liver function tests have not returned to normal
  • You’ve had porphyria (a rare, inherited blood condition)
  • You’re allergic to estradiol hemihydrate or any of the other ingredients in Elleste

Taking Elleste Solo can increase your risk of blood clots, strokes, breast cancer and ovarian cancer. It is important to consider these before taking Elleste Solo.

 

Elleste Duet 1mg / 2mg

Taking Elleste Duet can increase your risk of breast cancer, blood clots (thrombosis), stroke and ovarian cancer.

You should not take Elleste Duet if:

  • You have or have ever had breast cancer
  • You have an oestrogen-sensitive cancer (or if you think you may have it)
  • You have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • You have excessive thickening of the womb lining that is not being treated (endometrial hyperplasia)
  • You have or have ever had a thrombosis (blood clot in a vein
  • You have a blood clotting disorder (this could be a protein C, protein S or antithrombin deficiency)
  • You have or have recently had a disease caused by blood clots in the arteries, such as a heart attack, stroke or angina
  • You have or have ever had a liver disease and your liver function tests have not returned to normal
  • You have porphyria (a rare, inherited blood problem)
  • You are allergic to estradiol hemihydrate or norethisterone acetate or any of the other ingredients in this medicines

 

Elleste Duet Conti 

Elleste Duet Conti can increase your risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, blood clots, heart disease and stroke.

Do not take Elleste Duet Conti tablets if:

  • You have, have ever had, or think you might have breast cancer or any other cancers that are sensitive to oestrogen
  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • You have excessive thickening of the womb lining (endometrial hyperplasia) that is untreated
  • You have or have ever had a thrombosis (blood clot in a vein)
  • You have a blood clotting disorder
  • You have or have recently had a disease caused by blood clots in the arteries (heart attack, stroke or angina)
  • You have ever had a liver disease and your liver function tests have not returned to normal
  • You have porphyria
  • You have an allergy to any of the ingredients in Elleste Duet Conti
