What is a blood pressure monitor?
The Betterlife Digital Blood Pressure Monitor is an easy-to-use and accurate portable blood pressure monitor that allows you to conveniently test your blood pressure from the comfort of your home. It is clinically validated and has the ability to detect an irregular heartbeat.
The latex free upper arm cuff measures 8 – 16” (22 – 42 cm) and the monitor comes with 4 x AAA batteries. It also includes a storage case.
How does the Betterlife Blood Pressure Monitor work?
The Betterlife Blood Pressure Monitor is fully automatic. All you need to do to take your blood pressure reading is get comfortable, put the cuff in place and press the START button.
If you have any questions about using a blood pressure monitor, you should talk to a medical professional. You should also make sure you have spoken with your pharmacist or doctor before using this monitor if any of the following apply to you:
- You have had a mastectomy
- You have an arteriovenous (A-V) shunt or have intravascular access in your arm
- You suffer from atrial or ventricular premature beats or atrial fibrillation
- You have serious arrhythmia
How do you use your Betterlife Blood Pressure Monitor?
Read the user manual for Betterlife Blood Pressure Monitor before use. This blood pressure monitor is only intended for use by adults and should not be used on children.
Measure your blood pressure at least one hour after eating, drinking caffeine / alcohol or taking a bath. Relax for a few minutes before and remain relaxed throughout. Sit still at a table with both feet flat on the floor rather than crossing one leg over the other.
Place the cuff on your selected arm (refer to the manual for how to select an arm) and ensure it is secure. Make sure the cuff is at the same height as your heart as this will help you get the most accurate results.
When you are comfortable, press START. The cuff will automatically inflate, then a flashing heart will show up on the screen as the pressure gradually decreases and the monitor takes a measurement. The machine will beep when it has taken the reading, which will be displayed on the screen alongside your pulse rate.
If you need to take your blood pressure again, allow a few minutes for your circulation to recover.
What do the results mean?
Your blood pressure reading will be displayed on the screen. The monitor shows the systolic and diastolic values in mmHg and the pulse rate in beats per minute.
Each time you take a reading, you should record the date, time, systolic reading, diastolic reading and pulse rate in the record table found at the back of the user manual. If you feel that something might have influenced your blood pressure (e.g. stress), note that too.
There is a chart in the user manual to help you interpret your results. For the most accurate results, you should take your blood pressure at the same time of day, in the same position and under the same conditions each time.
You should take your blood pressure readings with you when you have appointments with your doctor or other healthcare professional. If you have any questions or concerns about your blood pressure, you should speak to your doctor.
