Rhinolast Nasal Spray
What is Rhinolast Nasal Spray?
Rhinolast Nasal Spray is an anti-allergy medication. It can be used to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis is inflammation of the nasal passages and sinuses, as a result of exposure to an allergen. Allergens that can cause allergic rhinitis include flakes of skin from animals, pollen and dust. Seasonal allergic rhinitis is especially common and is also known as hayfever. Rhinolast can help to alleviate some or all of these symptoms.
Rhinolast is prescription only medication. You must have a prescription in order to buy it. However, following a brief online consultation, we can prescribe Rhinolast to you. Contact us to find out more.
The active ingredient in Rhinolast is azelastine hydrochloride. For more information on Rhinolast, consult the patient information leaflet.
How it works
When the body is exposed to an allergen, it produces a chemical called histamine. This causes swelling and inflammation in the nasal passages and results in allergic rhinitis symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose.
Rhinolast is an antihistamine medication. It works by blocking the production of histamine, reducing swelling and inflammation in the nasal passages and relieving or preventing rhinitis symptoms.
Rhinolast should begin working to alleviate allergic rhinitis symptoms around 15 minutes after you use it.
Before you take it
You must not use Rhinolast if you are allergic to the active ingredient, azelastine hydrochloride. Consult with your doctor, who will be able to find an alternative medication to treat your symptoms.
If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, you must discuss with your doctor before using Rhinolast. Rhinolast passes into the bloodstream in very small amounts, but it is not clear how it affects an unborn baby. You will usually only be prescribed Rhinolast during pregnancy if the benefits of using it outweigh the risks to your baby.
Rhinolast may pass into breastmilk. As a result you should avoid using it while breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor for more advice.
Rhinolast may make you drowsy. You should not operate machinery or drive while using Rhinolast, as it can affect your concentration and make you sleepy.
Rhinolast may interact with the following medications. You should make sure you inform your doctor before using Rhinolast if you are taking any of the following:
- Alprazolam to treat anxiety
- Muscle relaxers such as Carisoprodol
- Cetirizine to treat allergy symptoms
- Codeine to treat pain relief
This is not an exhaustive list of warnings and interactions. For a full list, please consult the patient information leaflet or speak with your doctor.

The usual dose is one spray into each nostril twice daily. It is advisable to spray one dose into each nostril in the morning, and again in the evening. However, your doctor may prescribe you a different dose depending on your condition. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.
Your doctor or pharmacist will show you how to use the Rhinolast spray. If you are not sure, there is a diagram included in the patient information leaflet. If in doubt, speak to your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
Rhinolast should begin working within around 15 minutes. There is no need to use it before you experience symptoms.
Do not spray Rhinolast into the mouth or the eyes.
