Generic Malarone is a popular treatment for the prevention of Malaria. It can be started as late as 2 days before you embark on your holiday.
Generic Malarone belongs to a group of medicines called anti-malarials. It contains two active ingredients, atovaquone and proguanil hydrochloride.
Malaria is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito, which passes the malaria parasite (plasmodium falciparum) into the bloodstream. Generic Malarone prevents malaria by killing this parasite. For people who are already infected with malaria, Generic Malarone also kills these parasites.
Take ONE tablet daily starting TWO days prior to leaving for your trip.
Continue for the whole DURATION of the trip in malaria risk area.
Continue for SEVEN days upon leaving malarious area.
Take at the same time each day, with food or a milky drink, where possible. This will increase the amount of Generic Malarone your body can absorb, and make your treatment more effective.
It is very important to COMPLETE the course.
It is important you take steps to avoid being bitten.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects.
Although not everybody gets them and the effects are usually mild to moderate and of a short duration.
