What is Rhinocort Aqua?
Rhinocort Aqua nasal spray treats symptoms of hayfever and rhinitis caused by allergies. These symptoms include a blocked / runny nose, itching / swelling / irritation in the nose and sneezing.
This nasal spray is used to treat symptoms caused by perennial (year round) allergies and seasonal allergies such as hayfever.
It may also be prescribed to treat nasal polyps.
How does Rhinocort work?
Rhinocort Aqua spray contains the active ingredient budesonide, which is a kind of medicine called a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids can be used to reduce inflammation and also to prevent it happening in the first place.
Do not use Rhinocort if:
- You’re allergic to budesonide or any of the other ingredients in this medication
- You’re pregnant or breastfeeding
Talk to your doctor before using Rhinocort if:
- You have tuberculosis
- You have a chest infection
- You have reduced liver function
- You’ve been taking steroids for a while
- You’re taking ritonavir or cobicistat for HIV
- You’re taking medication such as ketoconazole for fungal infections
- You’re taking oestrogens and contraceptive steroids
How do you take Rhinocort?
Make sure you use Rhinocort nasal spray as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
To treat allergies, use Rhinocort once each day in the morning. The usual dose for adults is 2 sprays in each nostril. Alternatively, your doctor may tell you to do 1 spray per nostril in the morning and the same in the evening. Follow the instructions for use in the patient information leaflet.
Treatment can continue for up to 3 months.
How effective is Rhinocort?
Rhinocort budesonide nasal spray is clinically proven to treat allergic rhinitis. Use Rhinocort regularly for the best results.
Rhinocort is most effective when used preventatively, so try to use it before you come into contact with the allergen that affects you.
What are the main side effects of Rhinocort?
Like all medicines, Rhinocort can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
Three common side effects of Rhinocort are:
- Occasional sneezing
- Dry nose
- Stinging in your nose
