Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body Mass Index, frequently referred to as BMI, is a tool used to measure your height and body weight to determine if you're healthy.

You can check your BMI on the NHS website.

Understanding your BMI:

  • <18.5: underweight

  • 18.5 - 25.9: healthy

  • 25 - 29.9: overweight

  • 30 - 39.9: obese

While BMI is a useful tool in understanding your weight, your BMI is not a definitive indicator of your health. Some factors, such as high muscle mass, may impact your BMI and incorrectly indicate that you are overweight.

If you are worried about your weight and health you should see a healthcare professional.
